Allergy Testing

Skin or blood tests to determine the cause of an allergic reaction is termed as Allergy testing. Usually skin tests are done as they are fast, inexpensive and rapid to find a cause or pinpoint an allergen that triggers the allergic reaction.

In skin allergy testing, a small quantity of the suspected allergen is placed on or just below the skin to test the reaction of the allergen on the skin.

Usually skin prick tests, skin patch tests and Intradermal tests are conducted and if a reaction develops, it is considered positive. While blood tests require a small amount of blood to be laboratory tested for allergens.
