What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal (Rei) Energy (Ki). It is a spiritual healing discipline that has its roots in ancient Buddhist teachings. The founder of Reiki, Dr Mikao Usui, spent many years seeking the knowledge of healing. He received information on Reiki after meditating on a Japanese mountain for 40 days.
Reiki is the vital life energy that flows through all living things, which can be activated for the purpose of healing. When a person’s Ki is strong and freely flowing, the body and mind are in a positive state of health. However the vital energy may become blocked or weak and this may lead to symptoms on a physical or emotional level. You may eventually become vulnerable to illness, depression and stress.
A Reiki practitioner will have received “attunements” to open their healing channels. The guidelines for the practise of Reiki are concerned with ethics, living with the highest integrity, and include living in harmony with others, taking responsibility for one’s own health and happiness, helping others and being positive about all things.
What happens in a Reiki treatment?

By the laying on of hands, the practitioner acts as a channel for an input of pure energy, which balances and accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal physical and emotional ailments and dis-ease. The personal energy of the practitioner is not involved.
It is safe and natural and helps to restore homeostasis and harmony to the body. Every person is affected differently but the energy may be felt as gentle warmth or sometimes as coldness. There can be an emotional release or gentle vibrations may be felt.
It is wonderful for strengthening the immune system, relieving pain, clearing toxins, relaxing and reducing stress, promoting creativity, strengthening intuition and treating the symptoms and causes of illness. It is not ever intended to take the place of allopathic medicine but to be complementary with it. However it is often used in hospices for palliative care and is also used within the NHS.
Attunements in Usui Reiki.

She has been working with Reiki personally for the last 15 years and has been taught and mentored over that time by her Master/ Teacher Jill Roberton. She regularly attends Reiki Master meetings and uses her Reiki everyday as well as other spiritual practices.
There are 3 different levels of attunement. You progress from one degree to the next according to your own inner rate of personal experience and inner growth. There are no special conditions or equipment required to learn and practise Reiki. It is open to anyone of any age.
First Degree Reiki is a basic course which is usually held as a weekend seminar. You learn something about the history of Reiki and the hand positions for treatment as well as the chakra system. You are also given four attunements. You will be able then to give Reiki to yourself and to friends and family.

Second Degree Reiki can be given after at least 4 months of working with the energy of Reiki. You may now wish to deepen your knowledge and experience. Some people do Reiki I for years before they feel drawn to Reiki II. With this degree, further attunements are given that increase your vibration and open your intuition. You are able to send healing and can give treatments to others not just family and friends.
Third Degree (Master/Teacher) Reiki is for those who feel a vocation to help others grow and develop their spiritual life. It is a major commitment and means that you have chosen to try to live to the highest principles of integrity and wisdom. You can now attune others and to mentor and teach them through their own personal journey. Pam Has used Reiki as a daily practice for 16 years and is a Reiki master.
